BUFFALO, NY—Oneonta (15-7/13-2) played strong defense limiting Buffalo State (10-11/5-9) to just 23-percent shooting from the field en route to a 56-40 victory in a SUNYAC contest tonight at the Sports Arena.

Samantha Szkotak (New York Mills/New York Mills) led Oneonta with a game-high 14 points, and Rebecca Bucci (Marlboro/Our Lady of Lourdes) added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Jessica Clark (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) paced Buffalo State with 11 points, and Dee Layne (Brooklyn/East NY Family) had 10 points and nine rebounds. Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) chipped in eight points, 12 boards and four assists.

Oneonta limited the Bengals to just 18-percent shooting from the field in the opening 20 minutes and led 28-20 at the intermission. Buffalo State cut the deficit to just three early in the second period, but the Red Dragons used an 8-0 run to pull away and cruise to the 16-point win. Oneonta outscored the Bengals 18-6 from 3-point range.

Buffalo State will host New Paltz tomorrow at 2 p.m.
