BUFFALO, NY—New Paltz (14-9/11-5) opened the second half with a 20-4 run and never looke back in a 63-53 victory over host Buffalo State (10-12/5-10) in a SUNYAC contest this afternoon at the Sports Arena.
Nicole Sarcone (Staten Island/Notre Dame) led three Hawks in double-figures with 14 points. Alexandra McCullough (Delmar/Bethlehem) added 12 points and six rebounds, and Carly Minehan (Albany/Albany) scored 11 points.
Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) paced Buffalo State with 18 points and four steals.
Kristin Ritch (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) chipped in 15 points.
New Paltz led by as many as seven in the early going, but Buffalo State mounted 16-4 run late in the first half to take a 29-25 advantage into halftime. The Hawks quickly erased the deficit in the second half, however, and never trailed again. The Hawks shot 47-percent from the field forhte game, compared to 35-percent shooting by the Bengals.
Buffalo State will next visit Brockport on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
