ONEONTA, NY—No. 2 seeded Oneonta (17-9) outscored visiting No. 7 Buffalo State (12-14) 34-13 in the second half to pull away for a 71-47 victory in a SUNYAC Quarterfinal matchup tonight at Dewar Arena.
Freshman
Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) led Buffalo State with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Dee Layne (Brooklyn/East NY Family) also had 10 points and grabbed six rebounds, and senior
Jessica Clark (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) added six points and four assists.
Samantha Szkotak paced Oneonta with 14 points and 11 boards, and Rebecca Bucci also netted 14 points and had six assists.
After Oneonta raced out to a 26-8 lead, Buffalo State roared back and used a 23-6 run to tie the score at 34-34. The Red Dragons hit a late 3-pointer and took a 37-34 lead into the intermission. Oneonta emerged from the locker room recharged, and opened the second stanza with a 15-0 run and never looked back. The Red Dragons shot 44-percent from the field for the game, compared to just 30-percent shooting by the Bengals.
Buffalo State ended its season with 12 wins, the program's highest win total since winning 13 in 2003-04.
