ROCHESTER, NY—Buffalo State (0-1) dug itself a three-goal deficit before falling 3-1 against host Nazareth (1-0) in today's season opening non-conference game.

The Golden Flyers jumped out quickly with a pair of goals in the first few minutes of the game and then pushed the advantage to three in the 81st minute. The Bengals dashed Nazareth's shutout bid with 25 seconds remaining with an unassisted tally from sophomore Rachel Pettys (Darien/Alexander).

Nazareth outshot the Bengals 21-13, while freshman Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made six stops in goal for Buffalo State.

The Bengals head to Long Island this weekend for the Farmingdale State Tournament and will square off against Western Connecticut State in the first game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
