Women’s Soccer Drops Potsdam for First SUNYAC Win

Katie Hennes netted a goal and added an assist in the win
(BOX SCORE)

BUFFALO, NY—Katie Hennes (Northport/Northport) had a goal and an assist to lead Buffalo State (6-7-1/1-4-1) to its first SUNYAC win of the season over visiting Potsdam (3-8-2/0-6), 3-1, today at Coyer Field.

Potsdam withstood an early barrage of Bengals' chances and stuck first with a breakaway goal by Heather Johnson (Heuvelton/Heuvelton) in the 10th minute.  Buffalo State continued to control play, however and broke through in the 26th minute on a bad angle shot that found the back of the net off the foot of Hennes.  Amanda Smyth (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) picked up the assist.

The Bengals added two more goals before the intermission, an unassisted tally by Amanda Sauer (Orchard Park/Orchard Park), and M.J. Maitland-Walker (Hampton Bays/Hampton) converted her first collegiate goal, redirecting a corner kick by Hennes.

Neither team scored in the second frame and chances were kept to a minimum as increased wind and rain played a factor.

Buffalo State outshot Potsdam, 19-4, and earned eight corner kicks, compared to none by the Bears.  Virginia Porten (Auburn/Auburn) had three saves for the Bengals, and Dedra Palmer (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) also had three stops for Potsdam.

Buffalo State will host Plattsburgh for another conference game tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
