BUFFALO, NY—
Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie/Ketcham) scored twice, and
Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) netted the game-winner, lifting Buffalo State (1-0) to a season-opening 3-2 win over visiting Daemen (1-1) today at Coyer Field.
Kelsey O'Leary (Rochester/Greece-Olympia) scored once, and Jenelle Masi (Greece/Greece-Athena) had a goal and an assist for Daemen.
O'Leary opening the scoring early in the first half, but Mahoney converted on a breakaway minutes later and then banged home a rebound in the 25th minute to give Buffalo State the lead. Masi evened the score at 2-2 in the 60th minute, but Dudish blasted a 25-yard shot from the right wing that glanced off the cross bar on its way to the back of the net in the 75th minute to restore the Bengals' lead.
Tina Boberskyj (Rochester/Greece-Odyssey) set up the game-winner, and
Katie Hennes (Northport/Northport) and
Amanda Sauer (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) assisted on Buffalo State's first two goals respectively.
The Bengals controlled the bulk of the play, outshooting Daemen 24-10, and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Kayla Hampton (DeRuyter/DeRuyter) made 11 saves to keep the Wildcats in the game, while
Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) needed to make just two stops in the win for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State will travel to the Farmingdale State Tournament this weekend and will open with Western New England on Saturday at 3 p.m.
