(BOX SCORE)

BUFFALO, NY-- Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie/FDR) tallied two goals and an assist to lead host Buffalo State (4-2) to a 5-0 victory over Medaille (1-5) in a non-conference game this afternoon at Coyer Field.

Amber Smyth (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) also scored twice for the Bengals, netting the first two markers of the game less than six minutes into the contest. Mahoney's goals both came in the second stanza, sandwiched around a strike by Alyssa Ciliberto (Spencerport/Churchville-Chili). Amanda Smyth (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) added three assists in the winning effort.

Junior Virginia Porten (Auburn/Auburn) needed to make just two saves for the shutout, after making an emergency return to the roster due to injuries.

Buffalo State outshot Medaille, 33-4, and had several chances to increase the margin of victory, but Medaille goalkeeper Denay O'Connor (Rochester/W. Irondeqoit) made 15 saves to keep the Mavericks in the game. Buffalo State was also flagged for offsides 12 times.

Buffalo State will host William Smith for another non-conference tune-up on Saturday at 4 p.m.
