Women’s Basketball Drops Oneonta, Moves into Tie for First Place

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (16-2/9-2) used a 46-point second half to cruise into a first-place tie with Oneonta (11-6/9-2) after a 66-51 victory in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) paced Buffalo State with 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.  Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) also netted 13 points.  Divine Sebuharara (Vestal/Vestal) added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) had 10 points and three assists.

Samantha Szkotak (New York Mills/New York Mills) led Oneonta with 16 points and six rebounds, and Grace Schilling (Northport/Northport) added 10 points.

After the teams went into the locker rooms tied at 20-20 at the break, Buffalo State broke out in the final 20 minutes.  The Bengals used a 16-6 run midway through the second half to take the lead for good and create some separation down the stretch.  The Bengals led 60-51 with 2:48 remaining, and scored the game's final six points.

Buffalo State owned the glass, outrebounding the Red Dragons, 41-26.  The Bengals shot 43-percent from the field, compared to 38-percent shooting by Oneonta.

Buffalo State will make the long road trip to the North Country next weekend and will meet Plattsburgh on Friday at 6 p.m.
