BUFFALO, NY—Haley Killingbeck (Poneto, IN/Southern Wells) hit seven 3-pointers and Trine University (2-0) survived a late rally to defeat host Buffalo State (1-1) 64-56 and claim the title in the Betty Abgott Invitational today at the Sports Arena.  Alvernia defeated Alfred 73-61 in the consolation game.

Killingbeck finished with 21 points, going 7 of 14 from 3-point range, including 5 of 6 in the first half.  Kelsey Henselmeier (Martinsville, IN/Martinsville) had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sydney Spragg (Reading, MI/Reading) chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds, and Megan Loveberry (Quincy, MI/Quincy) scored 11 points and had five steals.

Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) led Buffalo State with 14 points and eight rebounds.    Hillary Kollar (Johnstown/Johnstown) added 10 points, and Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) had eight points, six rebounds and five steals.

The Thunder shot 45-percent from the field in the first half and raced out to a 40-21 advantage at the break.  The lead swelled to as many as 25 in the second half, but Buffalo State mounted a furious 19-2 run to cut the deficit to six with 1:43 remaining.  The Bengals cut the margin to five with 18 seconds left, but could not complete the comeback. 

In the consolation game, Alvernia opened up an early lead and never looked back.  The Crusaders netted 45 first-half points and led by 17 at the break before coasting to the win.  Stevie Fortna (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon Catholic) paced Alvernia with 19 points.  Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) added 13 points and eight assists, and Chelsea Ebersole (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) and Brittany Young (Columbus, NJ/N. Burlington) scored 11 points each.

The Saxons were led by 16 points from Harley Cleary (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy), and Emilea Harrison (Conesus/Dansville) netted 15 points.  Lindsay Drummond (Ogdensburg/Ogdensburg) added 13 points and eight boards, and Heather Hebert (Hilton/Hilton) had seven points and 11 rebounds.
