Box Score GENEVA, NY—Buffalo State (0-5) battled the nation's top-ranked team to a draw at the half, but eventually bowed to host William Smith (4-0-1), 3-2, in a non-conference matchup this afternoon.

Buffalo State got off to another slow start, spotting the Herons a 2-0 lead just 6:30 into the contest.  Paula Jones (Buffalo/Amherst) cut the deficit in half in the 13th minute, and Shannon Yokopovich (Webster/Webster Thomas) evened the score in the 30th minute.  William Smith reclaimed a lead it would not relinquish, however, striking just 1:52 into the second half. 

Taylor Volkman (Wilton/S. Glens Falls), Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) and Jenna Lynn (Leicester/York) all drew assists for the Bengals.

William Smith outshot Buffalo State, 21-6.  Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made eight saves to keep the Bengals within striking distance.

Buffalo State will play another non-conference game this Saturday at Pitt-Bradford at 1 p.m.
