Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Calif.—Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie/Ketcham) scored her first goal of the season, but Buffalo State (0-3) dropped a 3-1 decision to host UC-Santa Cruz (3-1), in a non-conference game today on the West Coast.

Santa Cruz opened the scoring in the ninth minute, but Mahoney's unassisted tally in the 20th minute pulled the Bengals even.  The Banana Slugs earned the win in the 82nd minute, however, netting two goals just 25 seconds apart. 

Santa Cruz outshot Buffalo State 16-7, and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made three saves for the Bengals in her first action of the season.

The Bengals will remain in California through the weekend and will play Chapman at Santa Cruz on Sunday at 9 a.m. PST.
