CORTLAND, NY— Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made five saves for the shutout and Shannon Yokopovich (Webster/Webster Thomas) provided the offense as Buffalo State (8-4-1/4-1) defeated host Cortland (5-4-4/3-1-2), 1-0, in a SUNYAC contest this afternoon.

After a scoreless opening half, the Bengals finally broke through in the 76th minute when Yokopovich connected on a header in traffic off a long free kick by Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island). Buffalo State limited Cortland to just three shot attempts the rest of the way with none going on goal.

The shutout was Banfield's second of the day and seventh of the season. Cortland finished with a narrow 12-11 edge in shots.

Seven of the Bengals' eight victories this season have come by a 1-0 final score.

Buffalo State will next host Plattsburgh on Friday at 3 p.m.
