Banfield Ties Shutout Mark, Women’s Soccer Blanks Medaille, 2-0

Linda Banfield tied the school record for shutouts in a season with nine
Box Score BUFFALO, NY— Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) equaled the Buffalo State school record for shutouts in a season with nine, and the Bengals (11-4-1) defeated visiting Medaille (3-11-1), 2-0, in a non-conference game today at Coyer Field.

Banfield tied Sue Hough's record from 1984, despite not being called upon to make a single save in today's contest. Today marked the first of Banfield's shutouts this season that did not result in a 1-0 victory.

The Bengals dominated play from the opening whistle, controlling possession and firing 32 shots toward the Mavericks goal, compared to just two against. Buffalo State had a 17-0 advantage in shots on goal and a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Megan Chapple (Utica/Whitesboro) and Shaunta Pyles (Hilton/Hilton) were the Bengals' goal scorers, each tallying her third goal of the season during the first half of play. Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) picked up an assist on the Chapple marker.

With its 11th win of the season, Buffalo State matches its second highest single-season total in school history, previously accomplished in 2010 and 1985. The school record for wins in a season is 13, set in 1984.

Buffalo State will visit Oneonta on Friday for a game that will likely decide the SUNYAC regular-season champion.
