Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) scored a career-high 30 points and Buffalo State (3-0) cruised past host RIT (2-2), 91-72, tonight in the non-conference contest.
McElroy hit 13 of 20 from the field and became just the eighth player in school history to score 30 points in a game, and the first since 2004.
Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse Minoa) added 12 points, and
Kelly Kell (Port Ewen/Kingston) chipped in 11 for the Bengals, going 11 of 13 at the free throw line.
The game was tied 16-16 midway through the opening half, before Buffalo State took control with a 12-2 run and never looked back. The Bengals led 40-25 at the break and RIT never threatened in the second half.
Buffalo State shot 44-percent from the field for the game, compared to 33-percent shooting by the Tigers. The teams combined to commit 55 fouls. The Bengals were 29 of 37 at the free throw line, and RIT shot 24 of 38 at the charity stripe.
Buffalo State will next host Oneonta in the SUNYAC season opener on Friday, Dec. 6.
