BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State, the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs, will welcome No. 6 Geneseo to Coyer Field for a SUNYAC semifinal game this Wednesday at 1 p.m. Geneseo advanced through Saturday's quarterfinal game at Cortland with a 5-4 advantage in penalty kicks after the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Buffalo State is making its fourth playoff appearance in five years, and just its second-ever appearance in the SUNYAC semifinals. The Bengals previous time in the "Final Four" came in 2010 when they tied New Paltz and advanced on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals, but lost at Plattsburgh in the semis. Buffalo State did make one appearance in the league championship game in 1984, prior to a multi-game playoff structure. Buffalo State tied that game against Cortland, but lost on penalty kicks. The Bengals are still seeking their first-ever playoff victory.

This year's Bengals concluded the regular season with an 11-5-2 overall record and were 6-2-1 in SUNYAC play. The Bengals set a new school record with 10 shutouts and conceded just 11 goals in 18 games. Eight of the team's 11 victories this season have been by a score of 1-0.

Senior goalkeeper Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) has been between the pipes for all 10 shutouts and has posted a .892 save percentage and a 0.45 goals against average. Gabrianna Boldinski (Tonawanda/Kenmore East), Liz Malinowski (Williamsville/Williamsville South), Christina Change (Castaic, CA/Valencia), Marissa Lombard (Orchard Park/Hamburg) and Emma Laffey (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown) have combined to shore up the back line all season.

At the offensive end of the field, the Bengals have tallied just 15 goals, but have received timely scoring from a balanced attack. Shaunta Pyles (Hilton/Hilton), Megan Chapple (Utica/Whitesboro) and Shannon Yokopovich (Webster/Webster Thomas) have netted three goals apiece, and Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) and Micky Tinnerman (Salamanca/Salamanca) have each scored twice.

Buffalo State claimed the regular-season meeting between the two teams at home, winning 1-0 on a goal by Chapple in the 88th minute. Banfield needed to make five saves for the shutout.

The winner of Wednesday's contest will advance to the SUNYAC Championship game on Saturday to take on the surviving team from the other semifinal, No. 4 Brockport at No. 1 Oneonta. The highest remaining seed will host the title game.

Tickets for Wednesday's semifinal game will be available at the Coyer Field gate on the day of the game. Adult tickets are $6 and students are $3. Buffalo State and Geneseo students will be admitted FREE with student ID.
