Box Score BUFFALO, NY—No. 6 seeded Geneseo (7-7-5) scored a pair of early goals and hung on to upset No. 2 Buffalo State (11-6-2), 2-1, in a SUNYAC semifinal game this afternoon at Coyer Field.

The Knights scored a pair of similar goals in the opening eight minutes of the contest. Freshman Erin O'Connor (Remsen/Remsen) started the scoring just 2:41 into the contest with her seventh of the season on a long shot from a sharp angle in the left corner that fooled the Bengals' keeper Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) and deflected off her hand into the back of the net. Emily Green (Loudonville/Colonie) struck on a nearly identical angle, but in a little closer less than five minutes later after taking a pass from Samantha Sherman (Levittown/MacArthur).

After being outshot 5-2 in the first half, Buffalo State had the wind its back in the second half and began to apply pressure. The Bengals finally broke through when senior Shannon Yokopovich (Webster/Webster Thomas) redirected a corner kick by Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) inside the right post in the 65th minute. Buffalo State outshot the Knights 9-1 in the second half, but was unable to net the equalizer.

The Bengals finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Geneseo's Julia Sanger (Penfield/Fairport) finished with four saves, while Banfield made two stops for Buffalo State.

Geneseo will advance to the SUNYAC championship game this Saturday at top-seeded Oneonta. It will be the Knights first appearance in the title game since winning the championship in 2009.

Buffalo State finishes the season with 11 wins, matching the most wins the team has posted in a single season since 1984 (also had 11 wins in 1985 and 2010). The 11 victories also marks a five-win improvement over last year's record of 5-9-5.
