Women’s Basketball Falls to Geneseo in SUNYAC Semis, 75-58

Bianca Smiley scored a team-high 14 points in her final game as a Bengal
Box Score PLATTSBURGH, NY—Third-seeded Geneseo (21-6) used its size advantage to take control inside and defeated No. 2 seeded Buffalo State (19-7), 75-58, in a SUNYAC semifinal contest tonight at Plattsburgh.

Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) led Buffalo State with 14 points. Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) added 12 points, and Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Buffalo State's only lead of the game came at 3-2, as Geneseo held a slim margin throughout the majority of the first half, leading 35-30 at the intermission. The Knights scored the first nine points of the second half and never looked back, maintaining a double-digit lead for the final nine minutes of the game.

Geneseo owned the glass, outrebounding the Bengals, 50-34, and held a 26-16 scoring advantage in the paint. The Knights' strength inside also set up room for their shooters to hit eight 3-pointers. Buffalo State forced 20 Geneseo turnovers, while committing just 11, but the Bengals could not take advantage, shooting just 31-percent from the field. Buffalo State did hit six 3-pointers, including four by Luciani. Geneseo also outscored the Bengals 19-6 at the free throw line.
