RESULTS
BUFFALO, NY - Freshman Connor Mergler (E. Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) broke the Buffalo State school and pool record in the 50 yard freestyle, but Buffalo State was not able to come up with the win over visiting Oswego on Saturday afternoon at Kissinger Pool. Oswego prevailed 154-107 on the men's side, and 170-121 on the women's side.
Mergler raced to the school and pool records, as well as a first place finish with a time of 21.58 in the 50 yard freestyle. The rookie also earned two more first place finishes, winning the 100 yard backstroke in 56.37 and the 100 yard freestyle in 47.83.
Collin deGuehery (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) also recorded a top finish. The diver won the three meter dive with a total score of 221.40.
The Bengals 200 yard medley relay took second place as Matt Ringer (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), Vinzenz Stadler (LeRoy, NY/Notre Dame), Tom DePasquale (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) and Shawn Finn (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) recorded a time of 1:45.97.
DePasquale also recorded two other second place finishes, swimming the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:13.05 and the 200 yard butterfly in 2:13.13.
Rounding out the Bengals top finishes, Stadler swam 1:07.48 in the 100 yard breaststroke and came in second place.
On the women's side, the 200 yard medley relay made up of Michelle DelFavero (Auburn, NY/ Home Schooled), Katelyn Boncek (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush), Briggs Sgaglio (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) and Alison Kolczynski (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) started the Bengals day off with a time of 50.11 and a first place finish.
Kolczynski also finished the day winning both the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 11:17.02 and the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:36.71.
Sgaglio also earned two other first place finishes. The first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:27.29 and the second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:45.57.
DelFavero tallied two second places finishes, swimming 2:08.19 in the 200 yard freestyle and then 59.15 in the 100 yard freestyle.
Buffalo State returns to action on Saturday afternoon for a home meet against Brockport at 1 p.m.
