Buffalo State is saddened by the loss of 1997 Athletics Hall of Fame honorary inductee Paul S. Luczak who passed away on March 14, 2021.
Â
Luczak was a member of the Buffalo State men's basketball team throughout his undergraduate years while also serving on the College Athletic Board.  He remained a loyal supporter of Buffalo State and Bengals Athletics throughout his life. He was elected executive vice president of the Bengal Sports Booster Club in 1983 and was later named president in 1986.  While president, Luczak supervised the establishment, growth, and funding of club programs and assisted the athletic department in establishing MVP awards for all team.
Â
Luczak also helped establish the annual Bengal Club Athletic Department Awards Dinner which later became the Benji Awards show.   Perhaps his most impactful contribution to the athletics department was serving as the principle organizer of the first Bengal Club Golf Tournament in 1984, which continues today as the department's largest annual fundraising event. The trophy annually engraved with the names of the tournament winners bears Luczak's name.
