Swimming and Diving earns multiple podium spots in day three of SUNYAC Championships

Bengal men and women eighth through 27 events

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Maggie Parobek (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Zach Nau (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) earning individual podium spots, along with strong performances by the medley relay teams highlighted a busy day for the Buffalo State swimming and diving teams as it completed day three of the SUNYAC Championships before a raucous Friday night crowd.

WOMEN'S NOTABLES
  • Parobek finished seventh in both the preliminary and final of the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing the final in a time of 1:11.61.
  • The 200-yard medley relay quartet of Parobek, Marita Miller (Freeville, NY/Dryden), Brianna Garcia (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West), and Hannah Heil (Medina, NY/Medina) raced to a seventh-place finish in a time of 2:14.80.
  • Garcia made it to the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle, and she finished fifth in her race and 13th overall in a time of 2:04.99.
  • Miller also finished fifth in the consolation final, swimming in 13th place overall in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.67, a personal best.

MEN'S NOTABLES
  • Nau just made the final of the 100-yard backstroke, finishing his heat in 55.37. In the final, Nau would place seventh with a time of 55.41.
  • The 200-yard medley relay team of Nau, Colby Riexinger (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport), Sean Mahaney (Alden, NY/Alden), and Wesley Van (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) finished in sixth, in a time of 1:40.51.
  • The Bengals had three swimmers in the consolation final of the 100-yard butterfly, as Matt Banks (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joe's), Mahaney, and Van finished 2-3-4, in times of 54.48, 54.70, and 54.77, respectively.
  • Branden Rivers (Lockport, NY/Lockport) finished in 12th in the 1-meter dive, with an 11-dive score of 385.50.

The Bengals will finish the championships with day four action to begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. The squad will compete in the 200-backstroke, 100-freestyle, 200-breaststroke, 200-butterfly, 1,650 freestyle, and the 400-freestyle relay.
