BUFFALO, NY – Aladin Ali (Rochester, NY/East Irondequoit) of the Buffalo State men's soccer team and
Vanessa Willick (Williamsville, NY/Buffalo Bisons) of the Buffalo State women's ice hockey team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week for their respective performances this past weekend.
Ali, a freshman forward, scored the game winning goal for the Bengals on Saturday against New Paltz in the SUNYAC Tournament First Round. After a Buffalo State throw-in, Ali was able to tap in the ball from behind just out of the reach of the New Paltz goalie. In addition, Ali had three other shots on goal for the Bengals. Ali's goal was his second of the season and first career postseason goal.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Cortland to battle the Red Dragons in the SUNYAC Tournament Semifinals at 3:00 pm.
Willick, sophomore childhood education major, picked up right where she left off last season totaling four points on two goals and two assists across two contests against Neumann University this past weekend. On Friday, Willick led the Bengals to their first win of the season netting two goals while also adding an assist. On Saturday, Willick picked up the assist on the game tying goal with :41 seconds remaining in regulation.
The women's ice hockey team returns to action this weekend with a pair of non-conference matchups against Chatham University on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop is set for 3:00 pm for both games.
