BUFFALO, NY – Vanessa Willick (WIlliamsville, NY/Williamsville East) of the Buffalo State women's lacrosse team and
Ella Stewart (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) of the Buffalo State softball team team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Willick, a senior childhood education major, was an offensive force for the Bengals as she totaled 17 points on 12 goals and five assists with four caused turnovers, ten ground balls, and 18 draw controls in a pair of Buffalo State wins over Allegheny and Plattsburgh. She set the program marks for most career ground balls and draw controls and moved into second in program history in goals scored. She was also named the SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week.
The women's lacrosse team returns to action later this afternoon as they will battle Alfred State to close out their non-conference schedule.
Stewart, a junior early childhood education major, has had a strong start to the regular season at THE Spring Games. Through seven games, Stewart is batting .542 with two doubles, eight runs scored, and three RBI while also slugging north of .600. She has also posted multiple hits in five of her seven games played and was 4-4 against Keuka to open the season.
After early action today, the softball team will round out THE Spring Games tomorrow against St. Lawrence and Luther.
