MEQUON, WI – The Buffalo State acrobatics and tumbling team competed in the opening round of the NCATA Division III National Championships today but fell short to Trine University with a final score of 246.290-129.050 at the R. John Buuck Field House.

THE RUNDOWN
- Trine jumped out to an early 33.375-22.425 lead following the compulsory event.
- Buffalo State's best heat of the event was the pyramid heat which scored a 9.025 to set a new program high.
- The Thunder had a narrow event win in the acro event, however, the Bengals faced just 2.88 points in deductions compared to Trine's 3.20.
- The Bengals scored 8.250 points in the seven-element heat which was also a new program best as the team of Bri Rohrer (Cheektowaga, NY/Depew), Adrienne Gardner (Fairfield, CA/St. Patrick-St. Vincent), Jackie Heyden (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), and Lucy Ingro (Newfane, NY/Newfane) competed.
- In the pyramid event, the Bengals kept it competitive with a strong showing with 25.675 points and just 1.93 points in deductions.
- The open heat was the best mark for Buffalo State scoring 8.975 points.
- Trine carried a narrow 88.15-71.68 lead into halftime.
- Coming out of the break, the Bengals scored 21.300 points in the toss event with their best heat being the 450 Salto.
- Buffalo State scored 7.725 points in the heat with the team of Rohrer, Ingro, Charmiya Dozier (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker), Carmela Capizzi (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East), Emma Doherty (Akron, NY/Akron) and Caitlin Wilhite (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster).
- In the tumbling event, the Bengals earned the win in the trio pass heat with the team of Dozier, Heyden, and Rohrer scoring 5.750 points.
- The Thunder secured the win in the team event scoring 85.14 points.
UP NEXT
Buffalo State will compete in a consolation tri-match tomorrow at 7:00 pm with East Texas Baptist and either Concordia-Wisconsin or Stevenson.
