THE MATCHUP… Buffalo State looks to get in the win column as they will welcome the Hartwick Hawks to Coyer Field for the first time since 2018. The Bengals hold a 7-1 record in the all-time series and have won each of the last three matchups overall.

THE BENGALS' LAST GAME… Buffalo State began their 2025 season last week as they hosted Brockport for the annual I-90 Bowl.

Amir Cameron (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) threw for 69 yards and rushed for 23. Keegan Whitfield (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia) led the receiving room with a 43 yard catch. On the defensive side, Isaiah DeCamp (Brooklyn, NY/Boys & Girls) had 10 total tackles including one for a loss while Sincere Green (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) tallied eight total tackles.

After both sides forced a fumble on their first possessions, Brockport eventually marched down field to score the first touchdown of the evening. After the Golden Eagles added a pair of touchdowns early in the second quarter, the Bengals threatened as Cameron found Whitfield down field for the Bengals biggest play of the evening. Brockport took a 21-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Golden Eagles scored on their first possession with a 56 yard touchdown from Nathan Williams. Brockport's defense would hold the Bengals silent as the Golden Eagles scored again to carry a 35-0 lead into the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles would seal the deal with a "scoop and score" and Chamarr Ware forced a fumble and returned it all the way for a touchdown. Brockport would later take a knee to run out the final seconds to secure the win.

LAST TIME WE MET... The two sides last met back in 2018 when the Bengals came away with a dominate 41-7 victory. Martin Bailey paced the Bengals offense with 117 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. Kevin Torrillo threw for 296 yards and two touchdowns as part of the Bengals 447 yards of total offense.

On the defensive side, Gino Bonagura totaled 11 tackles and a sack while Darren Wesley picked up a pair of interceptions.

ABOUT THE BENGALS' COACH… Lazarus Morgan is in his fourth season at the helm of the Buffalo State football program in 2025 after being appointed as the sixth football coach in Buffalo State history in January 2022.

In his first season as head coach, Morgan guided six student-athletes to Liberty League All-Conference selections, as well as seven All-Academic team winners. In 2023, the team saw nine All-Conference picks and six All-Academic winners. A year ago, Morgan's squad added six All-Liberty League selections and 13 All-Academic honorees.

He arrived in Buffalo after serving as the defensive coordinator at SUNY Cortland during the 2021 season, coordinating the fifth-ranked overall defense in NCAA Division III, helping guide the Red Dragons to an 11-1 record, an Empire 8 title, and a trip to the NCAA playoffs.

A native of the Bronx, Morgan played defensive back at Utica College from 2006-08, then began his coaching career at his alma mater from 2009-13. He then moved to Alfred University from 2014-19, serving as the Saxon's defensive coordinator in the final four seasons.

EYES ON THE HAWKS… Hartwick opened the season with an impressive 56-7 victory over Maine Maritime Academy. Dennis Riordan threw for 230 yards with a trio of touchdowns while Nicholas Massaregli rushed for 91 yards with three touchdowns. Three different receivers caught a passing touchdown in one of their biggest offensive outputs in the last decade. Tyler Leahey led the defensive side with seven total tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. John Acompora-Miller earned the Hawks first interception of the season.
