THE MATCHUP… The Buffalo State football team returns to action this weekend with a home matchup against the RPI Engineers. All-time, RPI is 8-1 against the Bengals with the Engineers winning each of the last seven contests. Buffalo State last picked up a win over RPI back in 2017 with a 33-21 final.
LAST TIME WE MET... The two sides met a year ago where the Engineers picked up a 57-13 victory at home over the Bengals.
Amir Cameron (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) threw for 215 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception for the Bengals.
Otho Cox (Nyack, NY/Nyack) had 86 receiving yards in the effort. Defensively,
Adrian Anderson (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) led the team with seven total tackles.
For RPI, Kayden White rushed for 147 yards with a pair of scores. On the defensive end, Miles Lafferty had eight tackles including two for loss and a sack. Three Engineers also tallied a forced fumble.
The Engineers controlled the action from the start as they led 40-13 heading into halftime. Coming out of the break, the Bengals were able unable to find the scoreboard again as RPI added a field goal in the third quarter and a pair of touchdowns in the fourth.
THE BENGAL BREAKDOWN… Cameron has thrown for nearly 700 yards with five touchdowns this season. Last week against Rochester, Cameron threw for over 300 yards with three touchdowns, and he currently sits less than 100 yards away from 3,000 career passing yards.
Leading the rushing room is
JC Dixon (Niagara Falls, NY/Canisius) who has netted 343 yards with a touchdown along with two 100-yard rushing performances over the past three weeks. Among the receiving core,
JP Plaisime (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore) is averaging over 14.00 yards/catch with a trio of touchdowns while
AJ Brooks Jr. (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) has been the "big play threat" for Buffalo State averaging over 21.00 yards/catch.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Brody Stevens (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Par) leads the team with 34 total tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and a pass breakup.
Maleek Walston (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore) and
Xavier Wallace-Messam (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) each have an interception for the Bengals.
OH CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!… Leading the Bengals this season are captains
Amir Cameron and
Brody Stevens. Cameron and Stevens are two key returners for the Bengals this season with Cameron leading the way on the offensive side of the ball and Stevens on the defensive side.
Cameron played in seven games last year, totaling over 1,000 yards with four touchdowns. Stevens appeared in all ten games tallying 66 tackles and three pass breakups.
ABOUT THE BENGALS' COACH… Mike Neale enters his first season leading Buffalo State after most recently serving as the defensive coordinator at Delaware Valley for two seasons. During his time with the Aggies, the team compiled a 16-6 overall record and ranked second in total defense and scoring defense in the country in 2024.
A native on San Diego, Calif., Neale has totaled over 20 years of coaching experience in all three phases as well as a head coach, including 19 years at the Division III level.
RESEARCHING RPI… The Engineers welcome the Bengals with a record of 3-1 (2-0 Liberty League) on the year. RPI has won each of their last two matchups with a pair of conference wins over Hobart and Hilbert.
Kayden White leads the team with 436 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Nate Ehui has been the top receiving threat averaging nearly 25.00 yards/catch with four touchdowns. Defensively, PJ Poknis has been everywhere tallying 45 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, an interception, a pass breakup, and three QB hits.
Head Coach Ralph Isernia has been leading the Engineers since the 2013 football season. In that time, RPI has been a constant competitor in the Liberty League with seven postseason appearances including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. In 2018, he led RPI to a 10-2 season, a Liberty League title, and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
