BUFFALO, NY – Tapiwa Mushonga (Johannesburg, South Africa/Hilton College) of the Buffalo State men's soccer team and
April Jakubowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) of the Buffalo State women's volleyball team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week presented by UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
Mushonga, a senior finance & economics major, picked up a pair of assists in Buffalo State's win over Hilbert on Saturday. The senior defender was a staple for the Bengals' defense as they posted back-to-back shutouts over Houghton and Hilbert. On the year, Mushonga has a pair of goals and a pair of assists and has helped led the Buffalo State defense to five shutouts on the year.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday as they will host Potsdam to open conference play.
Jakubowski, a sophomore mathematics major, had a strong showing for the Bengals this past weekend at their annual Bengal Challenge. Across three games played, Jakubowski totaled 70 assists, 18 digs, nine service aces, and a spot on the All-Tournament team. Jakubowski's best showing was in the effort against Baldwin Wallace with 25 assists and seven digs across four sets played.
The women's volleyball team returns to action tomorrow as they will head to Nazareth for a non-conference matchup.
