BUFFALO, NY – Carson Smith (Big Flats, NY/Horseheads) of the Buffalo State men's soccer team and Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) of the Buffalo State women's volleyball team have earned Bengal Athletes of the Week presented by UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
 
Smith, a junior economics major, was stellar in goal for the Bengals picking up a pair of shutouts to help propel #16 men's soccer to a 4-0 start to the season. In the win over Bryant & Stratton, Smith needed to make just two saves for the shutout. In Saturday's win over Alfred, Smith made another pair of saves to earn his third shutout of the season. On the year, Smith has totaled nine saves allowing just one goal across four starts.
 
The men's soccer team returns to action tomorrow night as they host Brockport at 7:00 pm.
 
Wittman, a junior journalism major, posted a strong weekend to help the Bengals finish 2-1 at the William Smith Tournament. Across all three matches, Wittman totaled 43 kills, a .347 attack percentage, 15 digs, and a pair of blocks. In the four-set win over Hamilton, Wittman set a career-high with 24 kills and a .420 attack percentage before adding 15 kills and a .522 attack percentage in the win over Alfred. Wittman was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
The women's volleyball team returns to action tonight as they host Houghton for their home opener at 7:00 pm.
