BUFFALO, NY – Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) and
Natalie Burck (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) of the Buffalo State softball team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week, presented by UBMD Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Pezdek, a junior psychology major, had a dominant week on the mound going 3-0 with 1.75 ERA across 20 innings pitched. The junior allowed just five earned runs with 20 strikeouts and a complete game in each contest. She pitched all eight innings in Buffalo State's win over #25 Rochester where she tallied nine strikeouts before adding another five strikeouts in a huge SUNYAC win over Cortland. On Sunday, Pezdek pitched all five innings of game one against Morrisville allowing just three hits with six strikeouts.
Burck, a sophomore mathematics major, had a strong week at the plate as she hit .563 with nine hits, three doubles, and seven RBI. Her best showing came on Sunday against Morrisville where she picked up a pair of three hit games while also driving in a combined five runs. Burck also scored six runs during the week for the Bengals and picked up a pair of stolen bases.
The softball team returns to action on Friday as they will host Potsdam for a SUNYAC battle.
