THE MATCHUP… The Bengals are set to continue their championship season at AARTFC Regionals hosted by Ursinus College. After a strong showing at SUNYAC Championships, the Bengals will look to keep the momentum going into this year's regional meet. Last season, the men finished tied for 33
rd overall while the women finished tied for 22
nd overall.
THE BENGAL MEN BREAKDOWN… The Bengal men are ready to race the regional meet this week following a third place finish at SUNYAC Outdoor Championships.
Terrell Price (Depew, NY/Depew) will race the 200-meter dash for Buffalo State while
Sidney Morris (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) will race the 800-meter run.
Ricky Curiel (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) will race the 10,000-meter run, fresh off a SUNYAC Championship in the event.
The 110-meter hurdles will feature the duo of
Jalil Coppedge (Bronx, NY/Ralph R. McKee) and
Julius Arias (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna) with
Christian Chance (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream) will be competing in the triple jump. Buffalo State will also race the men's 4x400-meter relay that finished third at SUNYAC Outdoor Championships.
Rounding out the field for the Bengal men will be
Bryan Honan (Cortland, NY/Cortland),
Ethan Mitrano (Penfield, NY/Penfield), and
Matthew Thompson (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) in the throws. Mitrano and Thompson will compete in the shot put and Mitrano will be joined by Honan in the hammer throw.
THE BENGAL WOMEN BREAKDOWN… Four Bengal women will be competing at the regional meet in
Natalia Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont),
Madison MacNeill (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca West),
Heidi House (Sanborn, NY/Starpoint), and
Nyla Wilson-Epps (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry).
Fresh off winning the 400-meter hurdles at SUNYAC Outdoor Championships, Sawyer will switch things up and race both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes while MacNeill and House will both compete in the high jump. Wilson-Epps will handle the throws for the Bengal women as she will compete in the discus throw and the hammer throw.
ASSESSING THE COMPETITION… Buffalo State will see the likes of over 60 teams across the region. Last season, Susquehanna took home the team title on the men's side while Geneseo came home with the win on the women's side. Among the SUNYAC schools, the Cortland men finished second while the Delhi women were sixth.
