Women’s Basketball to visit Cortland on Tuesday for SUNYAC Quarterfinal

Buffalo State's women's basketball team will compete in the SUNYAC playoffs for the first time since 2015 when it travels as the No. 6 seed to take on third-seeded Cortland tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal contest.

The Bengals enter the postseason on a roll, riding the momentum of a season-long, four-game winning streak which brings their overall record to 12-13, finishing 8-10 in league play.  The winning streak included a 61-53 victory at Cortland on Feb. 10.

Sophomore transfer Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) has led the Bengals all season, averaging a team-high 13.4 points-per-game which is good for fourth in the SUNYAC.  She also leads the Bengals with 45 steals and is grabbing 6.3 rebounds-per-contest.  Senior Caleh McLean is second on the team in scoring (8.0 ppg) and steals (38), and has saved her best for last, averaging 16.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.8 steals during the four-game stretch to close the regular season.

Junior Grace Licata (Williamsville/Williamsville South) has also provided a spark for the Bengals of late.  She is averaging 6.9 points for the season, but poured in 36 points on 12 3-pointers in the final two games of the season.  Rounding out the Bengals' starting five are freshman Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) and senior Mariah Rosario (Flushing/RFK).  Villarini is third on the team in scoring (7.3 ppg) and leads the Bengals with 63 assists.  Rosario averages a team-best 6.8 rebounds and is scoring 6.1 points-per-game.

The Bengals are in search of their first postseason victory since 2012 and first SUNYAC title since 2002.  Buffalo State has won a total of nine SUNYAC titles.

Cortland finished the regular season 15-10 overall and earned the third seed in the conference with a 12-6 mark in league play.  The Red Dragons won 62-53 at Buffalo State on Dec. 9, before falling at home a little more than a week ago.  Cortland is looking for its eighth SUNYAC title and first since 2010.

Tickets will be available at the Corey Gymnasium one hour before tip-off for $5 for adults, $3 for students and are free to SUNYAC students with valid ID.  Or you can watch the action live online at: http://cortlandreddragons.com/sports/2007/12/17/internetradio.aspx

The winning team will advance to the semifinals at Geneseo on Friday and will face No. 2 Oneonta at 5:30 p.m.
