This Week In Buffalo State Athletics - November 22, 2021

BUFFALO, NY – It is Thanksgiving week, and we're thankful for many things this time of year, including the fan support for our home games last week. While some of you are going home to spend time with family and friends, we still have some winter sports teams competing, including a men's hockey game on Tuesday evening, and two women's hockey games on Friday and Saturday at the Ice Arena. Come spend your holiday week with our Buffalo State Athletics family.

Women's basketball guard Katie Villarini (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and men's basketball guard Sheldon Adams (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) earned this week's Bengal Athlete of the Week honors. Click to read more
 
Women's Basketball (3-2)
Last Week:
The Bengals had a 2-1 week, defeating Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday evening and beating Bryant & Stratton in the opening game of the Betty Abgott Invitational on Thursday, before losing to D'Youville on Saturday evening. Katie Villarini (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) set a career-high with 31 points against Pitt-Bradford, then bested that mark the following night with 33 points against the Bobcats.

This Week:
Buffalo State is off this week as it prepares for the SUNYAC regular season to begin in December. The next game for the Bengals is December 3 at Oswego.

Men's Hockey (3-4-0, 2-1-0 SUNYAC)
Last Week:
The Bengals posted a split of two SUNYAC games this weekend, falling to Plattsburgh 5-1 on Friday, before responding with a 7-1 thrashing of Potsdam on Saturday night. Joel Frazee (Monroe, MI/Shreveport Mudbugs) scored a hat trick against the Bears, while Parker Allison (Dallas, TX/Neepawa Natives), Anthony Morin (Greenfield Center, NY/Utica Jr. Comets), and Matt Pasic (Cotuit, MA/Philadelphia Revolution) each tallied their first career goals in the victory.

This Week:
The Bengals host Elmira on Tuesday night at the Ice Arena, and head out to the Great Lakes region for an exhibition against the USA National Development Team on Friday, and a non-conference matchup with Trine University on Saturday.
This Week's Schedule:
11/23   vs. Elmira – 7 p.m.
11/26   at USA National Development Team (Exhibition) – 7 p.m.
11/27   at Trine University – 5 p.m.
 
Men's Basketball (0-3)
Last Week:
The Bengals finished the week 0-2 at the Community Health Center of Buffalo Classic, but still managed to set three individual tournament records along the way. Sheldon Adams scored a career-high 39 points, but Buffalo State lost a 90-88 heartbreaker in overtime to Ohio Northern on Friday night. The Bengals were defeated on Saturday afternoon by John Carroll, although Adams set the tournament record by scoring a combined 71 points in the two games. Philbert Weekes (Brooklyn, NY/Lafayette) tied a Buffalo State record with 28 rebounds against the Blue Streaks, and his combined 49 boards in the two games set a new tournament record.

Women's Hockey (0-6-0, 0-3-0 NEWHL)
Last Week:
Buffalo State dropped a 4-2 decision to Chatham in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening. Miya Silva (El Monte, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) and Bethany Horvatits (Elma, NY/Cazenovia Chiefs) scored their first collegiate goals in the defeat.

This Week:
The Bengals are back in action this weekend with a two-game series against Concordia University of Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday at the Ice Arena.
