SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior infielder
Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) of the Buffalo State softball team earned SUNYAC/Prestosports Softball Athlete of the Week honors after a tremendous week at the plate, the conference announced on Monday, April 25.
Wolinski led the Bengals with a .565 batting average (13-of-23) over six games, tallying seven doubles, six RBI and five runs scored. In an extra-innings victory over RIT, the senior went 5-for-6 with three doubles and four RBI, including the game-winner in the 10th inning. She increased her hit streak to an impressive nine games in the process.
Wolinski leads the team with 18 RBI and 18 doubles and sits third on the team with a .373 batting average. Her 18 doubles rank eighth nationally.
The Bengals went 3-3 during another busy week, sweeping RIT, falling to Geneseo, and earning a split at Brockport. With a spot in the upcoming SUNYAC Championship Tournament on the line, the Bengals will finish the regular season with four games this week, hosting Potsdam on Friday at 3 p.m. and Plattsburgh on Saturday at noon.
