Buffalo State is saddened by the loss of former Buffalo State softball player and assistant coach Kara Stein. Stein passed away on Friday, April 14, at the age of 30 after a brave battle against ovarian cancer.
Stein was a member of the Buffalo State softball team from 2012 until her graduation in 2015. She returned to Buffalo State as an assistant coach the following year. Kara was a teacher at St. Benedict's School in Amherst, and also served as an assistant coach for the Amherst Central High School varsity softball team.
We extend our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to Kara's family and friends during this difficult time. The Buffalo State softball team would like to dedicate the remainder of our season in her memory.
"Kara was loved by every person she met. She was a wonderful human being who made everyone around her better," said Buffalo State Softball Coach Jamie Brown. "She loved being a part of the Buffalo State family. Words can't describe how much she will be missed. Her spirit will live on, and we will continue to celebrate her memory every time we step on the field. Our thoughts are with her family during this tragic time. We thank everyone for the kind words and condolences."
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Kara's memory to St. Benedict's School.
