1947-1951 

- McCarthy was a member of the varsity swimming team for four years and captained the team his senior year. 

- He led the State team to its best record in college history in 1947-48. 

- Alan won two events in the WNY Intercollegiate Championships and shattered 19 college records. 

- He was awarded the Alumni Varsity Club Outstanding Athlete of the Year Award in 1948-49.
